The Laura Spinetta Library Fund

The Laura Spinetta Library Fund has been established to double the size of the Plymouth Elementary School Library in memory of Laura Spinetta, who volunteered as a librarian at Plymouth Elementary School for many years.

Laura’s work encouraged teachers and students alike. The Theme for the Laura Spinetta library is inspired by Dr. Seuss’ “The Cat in the Hat”. Donations can be accepted on line or mailed directly to the foundation noting :The Laura Spinetta Library Fund” in the memo section. Anonymous donor aids PE, schools’ music programs

Amador County schools will have beginning music programs next school year thanks to an anonymous donor.

The donor handed a $130,000 check to the executive director of the Community Foundation of Amador County to benefit local schools.

The biggest portion of the gift – $100,000 – was used to help buy equipment and otherwise support physical education programs at Amador County Unified School District’s two junior high schools.

The remaining $30,000 from the bequest and other community donations and grants has become a life raft for the district’s beginning music programs, which had been cut at the end of the 2009-10 school year – after two full-time music teachers were laid off.

Chris Tootle, the district’s sole full-time music teacher, said the money enabled the district to once again offer band to all sixth-grade students, as well as to fifth-graders at two schools. The money also allowed the district to offer high school jazz band twice a week.

The district has previously offered beginning band in the fifth and sixth grades at all schools and high school jazz band five times a week.
